6 Simple Tips for Creating an Effective Small Business Blog

Small Business Blogging Tips

Many large companies know blogging has many benefits for their business and website traffic.  However, most small businesses neglect the benefits of blogging and do not realize a blogs marketing potential.  Most, if not all, internet professionals agree that a good business blog is a powerful marketing tool for both large and small companies.  A well marketed and developed business blog can bring your company more customers than other forms of advertising; and best of all, the only costs involved is time.  Creating a good business blog does not have to be hard or complex, below are 6 great tips for starting an effective business blog.

6 Simple Tips for Effective Blog Posts

  1. Eye Catching Title – Most people judge a book by its cover – this includes interested customers.  Give you blog an interesting title that encourages reading.  Don’t waste a great blog post by using a weak title.  Instead, focus on words that have deep meaning and have an immediate impact on an individual (i.e. “Blogging Tips” vs. “6 Simple Tips for Creating an Effective Business Blog”).  The latter version includes the same information as the former, but is more interesting and detailed.
  2. Showcase your services and products – Good use of keywords and phrases helps develop your blog as a go to resource for consumers looking to buy.  Become the authority in your area of expertise by explaining individual services or products!
  3. Target your customers by geographical location – Do not try to blog for new customers in the “United States” if the majority of your sales are in “Colorado” – these are very different keywords.  Build your blog locally before attempting to expand to broader demographics. Be sure to include keywords relating to a specific area – by entering in a city before your services (i.e. Littleton Web Design).
  4. Keep content simple and understandable – Remember consumers are not experts in your fields.  If they found your blog or website they most likely did so by typing in a simple keyword or phrase.  Keep industry jargon at a minimum and use it only when necessary to showcase your company’s expertise.
  5. Link to other pages of your site – Linking to other pages of your website encourages readers to continue reading about your company and keeps interested consumers on your website longer.  The longer they are on your site, the more likely they will choose to hire or purchase from your company.  Definitely provide a link to your Contact Us page!
  6. End with a call to action – Give your reader one last sentence to provoke a purchase or action.  Offer them a coupon or special for reading your blog and filling out your contact form.  Ideally, this will result in a sale but if it if not; at least you have a new lead!

Both search engines and consumers love blogs.  Search engines love the fresh content coming out of blogs and the consumers love the information found in blogs.  Though the goals are separate both are important from a business standpoint.  In other words, if your company produces a high-quality, active, and informational blog, your website will be indexed by search engines more frequently, will benefit from better search engine rankings, and receive more website traffic from interested consumers.  Plus, the information provided in the blog can be a selling point to interested consumers, ideally converting them into new customers.  Each new blog post will steadily increase your company’s credibility and online presence.
